Google AI Mode Gets Visual + Conversational Image Search – DMI

November 18, 2025

Google’s new AI Mode takes searches to a new level by allowing visual images and conversational prompts to find what you’re looking for.

Google Expands AI Mode with Smarter Image Search

Background / Impact

DMI is excited to announce Google’s upgrade to its AI Mode. Now you can use visual images and casual speech as input when searching the web. Users can point at an image, ask questions about it, and get instant AI-generated answers. This feature was launched in late August 2025 and is currently in test mode for select mobile users before becoming readily available. Google aims to incorporate multimodal search experiences that combine visual and conversational elements to make searching more instinctive.

This is another added enhancement following moves like Google’s Audio AI Overviews in Search Lab Tests and their plans to show more links in AI Mode – a growing trend towards more user-controlled search experiences.

Why It Matters

Google’s search upgrade bridges the gap between what we see visually and AI-driven searches. Instead of typing in common questions, searchers can ask detailed questions about a picture and get conversational answers. It’s a huge step toward fully-integrated, AI-first search – one that sees, hears, and understands context like never before. Content creators, marketers, and e-commerce businesses will benefit from visual and conversational image search to engage their audience.

Following closely behind WordPress’s integration of AI, this indicates a broader trend: AI is essential for engaging users with content. Optimizing for AI-driven interfaces on blogs, eCommerce stores, or knowledge hubs is now crucial.

Actions To Take

  1. Prepare images for AI search by selecting clear visuals, structured metadata, and high-quality alt text. When Google’s image features become available, test the program and monitor how your input is interpreted and how it ranks.
  2. Structure for AI Mode: Ensure your content is semantically rich and link-worthy now that Google is pushing to show more links in AI Mode
  3. Stay Compliant: Staying current with privacy rules is crucial when using AI tools with more data. Meta is tightening data compliance for advertisers.

Wrapping It Up

Google’s visual + conversational image search feature is an exciting move toward making search smarter and personified. Search is becoming more about context, visuals, and conversation than keywords. Marketers and creators must rethink content for usability, not just rankings.
